Up Close & Personal

Ms. Woods in a performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at historic Mechanics Hall.

With an orchestra numbering well over 100 Woods led her first performance of Stravinsky’s masterpiece The Rite Spring at the mere age of 29.

One of the biggest thrills I had as a young conductor was the chance to learn from one of great composers of our times-Pulitzer Prize winner George Crumb.

Working with him and the orchestra as we prepared his score- Haunted Landscapes was one of the great learning experiences I had as I began the shift from student to professional. It raised my own level of musicianship and served to cement my commitment to quality performances of works by living composers-wherever that road has taken me.
